Diamond Head
Diamond Head, the quintessential backdrop of Waikiki, is an ancient volcanic crater with a storied history. Aside from its inescapable portrayal in postcards and paintings, it was utilised as a coastal defensive position by the allies during World War 2. A popular hike accessible from inside the crater will take you to the top of the ridgeline through war-era supply tunnels and will deposit you on the roof of a bunker with sublime views up and down the coast. The neighborhoods immediately surrounding the crater rank as some of the most coveted property on the island. Many sit cliff side with amazing unobstructed ocean views, others have direct beach access. Starting at the East edge of Waikiki, the Diamond Head area spreads around and past the mountain, including areas such as Kahala, the Gold Coast, and Black Point. This area is also surrounded by an amazing selection of shopping, dining and a variety of activities.
Schools: Unity School (preschool), Waikiki elementary school, La pietra School for Girls (6-12), Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind, Kapiolani Community College.
This neighborhood is closest to Monsarrat ave, a bustling hill with many attractions (Bogarts, Da Cove Health Bar and Cafe, and Diamond Head Market and Cafe), along with some clothing boutiques and yoga studios.
The Diamond Head lookout is a great place to stop by, have your lunch, and watch the surfers/waves. There are also a few small parks that are ideal for walking to, and exercising.
