Hawaii Kai

Hawaii Kai is a well-planned marina neighborhood with safe streets, centralized commercial areas and parks within walking distance. Easy access to Maunalua Bay and its beaches is a great asset for boaters, fishermen, and beachgoers alike.

There are multiple veterinary offices and pet hospitals (Gentle Vets, Surf Paws, Hawaii Kai Veterinary) available to care for our furry and feathered friends. In addition, the dog park provides a friendly location for canines and people alike to exercise and socialize.

There are public schools such as Hahaione Elementary, Kamiloiki Elementary, Koko Head Elementary, Niu Valley Middle School, Kaiser High School.

Kaiser High School also hosts a Kaiser PTSA Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 4-7pm.

There is no shortage of locations for beach activities. Hanauma Bay boasts world-class snorkeling at a low price, (free for residents!) and beaches and surf breaks can be found up and down the road. A few notable mentions: Sandy Beach is renowned for its powerful surf and beautiful white sand. Makapuu, just a few minutes further down the road, has a lookout with an unparalleled view of the eastern coast and a small bay with an attractive beach.

Nestled between Koko Head park and Makapuu, the Hawaii Kai golf counts an eighteen-hole course with gorgeous vistas, a driving range and clubhouse with full amenities among it's impressive offerings.

For a short yet intense workout with an amazing payoff, the Koko Head summit hike fits the bill. A little over half a mile to the top and twelve-hundred feet of elevation gain will leave you feeling the burn. The breeze from the breathtaking view at top will cool you right off, however. The entrance can be found within the Koko Head District Park. There are 5 baseball fields where the HK Youth Baseball league practices and plays, along with tennis courts, a recreational center, and a playground.

There are 3 main shopping centers to get anything that you need, food, services, hardware, etc...

Hawaii Kai Towne Center
Being right next to Costco is a great perk of living in Hawaii Kai. Find the nicest prices on cheese, wine, and more.

A farmers market is held in the marina courtyard, behind the Panda Express, where you can find fresh produce. Wednesday:  7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Saturday: 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

For a nice dinner visit the original Roy’s restaurant for high-end Hawaiian inspired cuisine made with fresh ingredients from the Island by Roy Yamaguchi.

The Towne Center is also the home of Maile’s Thai Bistro, a fabulous spot to sit down (or take out) thai food. There are also plenty of cheaper and faster food options, such as Starbucks, Koa Pancake House, Panda express, Sushi man, and Yogurtland.

In the corporate plaza of the Towne Center, (next to Tesoro), there is the Hawaii Kai Satellite City Hall for any license and registration needs. Another useful spot to know about is Island Urgent Care, where you can stop in for medical help without going to your normal practitioner.

HKSC
Hawaii Kai Shopping Centre is another place with shopping staples such as Safeway and Longs. It’s great to go to Safeway on fridays for ‘$5 Fridays’, where they publish a sheet in the newspaper with what items will be on special (and they discount additional items in-store, so look out for those $5 price tags!). Each Sunday marks the start of the new specials at Longs Drugs store, which are also published in the paper. You could also pick up or view these sheets in-store.

Island Brew Coffeehouse is distinguished by its mostly outdoor, colorful seating-- perfect for lounging or for doing work with a view in a relaxed environment. This is a pet-friendly spot. Enjoy one of their many craft coffee drinks, pancakes, an acai bowl, or a smoothie.

There are a couple of bars at the back of the shopping centre too if you feel like stopping for a drink.

Walk along the perimeter of HKSC to find spots where you can sit around the marina and watch the sailboats and ducks float by.

Koko Marina
Koko Marina has a variety of food vendors, making it a perfect stop for picking up snacks for the beach or any occasion. Paina Cafe for poke bowls, Kokonuts for shave ice, Fatboys or Locomoco for a plate lunch, Kozo sushi, and a Walgreens for anything else you’ve missed. It is a great spot for a date, catch dinner, a movie at Consolidated Theaters, and then go to Bubbies for the best homemade ice cream shop on the east side.

The marina is a great place to sit for lunch or dinner. The Greek Marina and Kona Brewing company are both sit-in restaurants with views of the Marina, where you can watch banana boats and rafts bounce around, courtesy of the adventures provided by Hawaii Watersports or Bobs adventures. Assagios is a nicer option, where you can sit down at a white tablecloth and enjoy italian fare.

While being a great destination for food, it is also a great spot for running your daily errands. There are two gas stations in this shopping center, along with a 24 hour fitness, Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian bank, and an Al phillips dry cleaners. You can pick up your prescriptions at walgreens, and stop into petco to browse the pet products.
